The Emancipation Proclamation

This satirical sketch by Adalbert Volck casts President Lincoln in league with the devil as he drafts the Emancipation Proclamation. The pictures on the wall purport to show Lincoln in sympathy with radical abolitionist John Brown and with the bloody slave revolt in Santo Domingo at the turn of the nineteenth century.

Adalbert John Volck (1828–1912)
